The ancient town of Lostwithiel...

The beautiful medieval town of Lostwithiel situated in the Fowey River Valley is knee deep in history and has a lively and vibrant community. It is the ideal base to explore breathtaking countryside and discover the many unspoiled beaches of Cornwall.

Antiques shops and regular antiques fairs make Lostwithiel the ‘antiques capital of Cornwall’. It also offers a choice of quirky and interesting shops, a deli, excellent pubs and restaurants as well as the river Fowey which runs through the town and under its fine early fourteenth century bridge with five pointed arches.

Lostwithiel also boasts the magnificent Restormal Castle, one of the four chief Norman castles in Cornwall. With its perfect circular design, it was once residence to the Earl of Cornwall. The castle became ruined following the Civil War in 1644 and is now in the care of the English Heritage and is open to the public. Many beautiful walks surround the area so you can really get a feel for its tremendous history.

With good road links and a mainline railway station, you are in a perfect position to explore the rest of Cornwall but you may not want to!

This beautiful ancient town really is the hidden jewel of Cornwall.
